About YDR

Guests will have access to the entire house, apart from the garage & basement. We can comfortably accommodate 10 guests with 5 bedrooms- 3 queen bedrooms, 1 full size bedroom, and a trundle bedroom.

Additionally, guests will have access to the grounds if you'd like to take a short walk. The house is located on seven quiet acres & we actually live in the house approximately 250 feet to the east of Yellow Dog Retreat. So, if you ever need anything, we are a short phone call away.

Why did we call it “Yellow Dog Retreat,” you ask? Well, because we're dog people & we welcome your furry friend along for an additional fee (refer to our FAQs & Policies page for more information.)

The Layout

The Yellow Dog Retreat is a Sears Roebuck bungalow style kit house from the 1930s designed with different levels.

When you enter the home on the bottom level, there is a mudroom with a full bathroom. There are 6 stairs that take guests up to the first floor. On the first floor there is the living room, dining area, kitchen, and bedroom #1 (full bed). From there, another 6 stairs will lead to the second floor that is equipped with the second full bathroom and bedroom #1 (queen bed). One last staircase will take guests to the third story with two queen bedrooms (bedrooms #3 and #4) and the trundle bedroom (bedroom #5).

About Jeremy & Chelsey

Born and raised in Madison, Ohio, my wife, and I live about 5 miles from the shores of Lake Erie in winery country. We met at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, and we moved back home shortly after college. We love this area, and you can usually find us canoeing, hiking or fishing in the many streams and rivers with our favorite dogs, Eddie and Brucey. Or maybe even on the dance floor at one of the numerous winery hotspots around town. We've stayed in multiple Airbnb’s during our travels, and we finally have a rental of our own.

About the Yellow Dogs

Eddie & Brucey love to trot over and greet our guests. Brucey will want to play fetch, while Eddie will just want some treats and pets, and will most likely just lay down in the middle of your group.

Eddie

We were blessed to find Eddie as a 6-week-old puppy back in November of 2011, a few months after moving into our old farmhouse. When Jeremy went to pick him up, he immediately started chewing on his shoelaces. As the puppy stage went on, he eventually graduated to chewing actual shoes, and even some drywall. He was a typical lab puppy for sure, but we didn’t realize what we were in for, and how much work a Labrador puppy could be! Eddie is named after Jeremy’s favorite band of all time, Iron Maiden…they have a mascot named Eddie!

Eddie has been more than just a dog; he’s our best friend and the best companion anyone could ask for. To our family and friends, we are ‘the couple who takes our dog everywhere we go.’ And that is just fine by us! He sleeps on the end of our bed, rides shotgun, and sometimes he even gets his own seat at the dinner table. We love him like he’s our son. Eddie gets daily walks at one of our local Metroparks hiking trails or down at the Geneva State Park & Marina. During the summer you can find him at our favorite dog-friendly wineries in the area.

Eddie has a lot of ‘miles’ on him:

  • torn both ACLs

  • gone jet skiing

  • went fly-fishing all over Colorado

  • been on countless fly-fishing trips all over Pennsylvania

  • caught tons of walleye

  • plowed a bunch of snow

  • been a supervisor on multiple job sites with dad

  • project managed the renovation of Yellow Dog Retreat

  • been the best big brother to our baby human girl, Elizabeth & little bro Brucey

He is pretty much the best boy ever.

We bought our Airbnb on Easter weekend of 2016. Eddie was always there helping us and comforting us when things didn't go as planned during the 2.5-year renovation project. When people would ask if we were going to give the house a name, our working title was jokingly, ‘Yellow Dog Retreat.’ Well, the name stuck, and Yellow Dog Retreat is now the best tribute we could give to our best friend, Eddie.

Brucey

Brucey… What can we say about Brucey? Eddie was about to turn 9, and we were toying with the idea of finding another yellow lab. We were keeping our eyes and ears open for a few months, but we weren’t having any luck finding a puppy. On a random dinner date with our best bud, Eddie, at Laurello’s Winery, a sweet couple called us over to their table to say hello to Eddie. We started chatting, and we mentioned we were on the hunt to find another lab. Well, it turned out they had a good friend who had just had a litter of fox red labs. We had never heard of such a dog, and after a quick google search confirmed they were just a color variation of the yellow. Whoop, whoop!  Anyways, we were able to grab Brucey up (or Mr. Green Jeans) as the owner originally called him. I guess he used to lay around in a pair of green jeans. We brought Brucey home in late August of 2020, at about 6 weeks old.

It took Eddie a few months to figure out what Brucey was, but as he got bigger, Eddie finally began to play with him! He finally accepted him after about 3 months of him being around, and now Brucey keeps him on his toes. Brucey loves to play tug of war with him, and even gives Eddie a case of the zoomies from time to time. Eddie is doing his best to teach him how to be a good boy.  Brucey’s love for playing fetch is like nothing we have ever seen in a dog. We do not think it’s possible to tire him out; he’s like a machine.

When it comes down to it, we like to think Brucey is helping to keep Eddie young, and we are grateful they get along so well. He is the kid brother Eddie never wanted and is the complete opposite of Eddie in every way, but we love him just the same.
